Mansfield said last week that an investigation indicated the victim had traveled to the area to meet with an unknown person, and while at the scene, three unknown suspects approached the vehicle.
“One suspect entered the vehicle and shot the victim,” Mansfield wrote in a news release at the time. “The remaining suspects then fired additional shots at the vehicle. All three suspects fled the area on foot.”
Kenya Washington told the New Haven Register that when she went to the scene last Saturday, she saw her car crashed and police also found her son’s cellphone in the car.
She doesn’t know who her son planned to meet, according to the Register.
Kenya Washington described her son to WTNH News 8 as someone who was passionate about cooking, had a big heart, and was always looking after those close to him.
She told FOX 61 that Keyvon was a former Boy Scout who went to culinary school and had dreams of opening up a barbecue restaurant.
Police are continuing to investigate the homicide. Anyone with information is asked to Detective Palma of the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000. Information can be provided anonymously.
