Multiple Shootings Investigated In Hamden: Police

Police are investigating multiple shooting incidents, including one where bullets entered a home where 3 small children were sleeping.

HAMDEN, CT — Police are increasing patrols throughout town after receiving multiple reports of shots fired over the past three days in Hamden, including one early Saturday morning where bullets entered a home where three small children were sleeping, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

At about 6:30 p.m. on July 18, police responded to the area of State Street and Ridge Road on the report of “shots fired,” according to Smith. Witnesses told police that the occupants of two vehicles were “shooting at each other,” Smith said.

Witnesses also said that numerous gunshots were fired. There were no injuries reported, according to Smith.

Smith said police searched the area but didn’t find the suspects and remnants of the shooting were found along State Street.

At about 10:15 p.m. on July 19, police responded to the area of Warner Street on the report of a shooting. Investigation revealed that multiple gunshots were fired in the area of Warner Street and Mott Street, according to Smith.

Smith said bullets struck several parked vehicles on Warner Street and Mott Street.

Then at about 2 a.m. on July 20, police again responded to the report of “shots fired” in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Hamden Park Drive, according to Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that the shooting involved occupants in two vehicles. Numerous gunshots were fired in the vicinity of Dixwell Avenue, between Hamden Park Drive and First Street. Two bullet holes were located inside of a Dixwell Avenue residence, according to Smith.

“One of the bullets entered a family room, where three small children were sleeping,” Smith wrote in a news release. “Another bullet entered a wall ‘a few feet above one of the children.’ There were no reported injuries.”
