One driver remained on the scene after striking the man, but police have learned that another vehicle initially struck the victim and fled.

HAMDEN, CT — Investigators have learned new information in connection to the death of 58-year-old Harris Tendler, who was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Dixwell Avenue early Sunday morning, and Hamden Police are now looking for another vehicle that fled the scene.

The Hamden Police Department Traffic Division has been conducting an ongoing investigation regarding Tendler’s death, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

As reported earlier, officers received information that Tendler, a Hamden resident, was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross Dixwell Avenue at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 11.

Hamden Police have gathered video surveillance footage from several commercial establishments in the area, according to Smith.

“Surveillance footage shows that Tendler was initially struck by a motor vehicle that was traveling northbound on Dixwell Avenue,” Smith said in an email. “The first motor vehicle that made impact with Tendler, fled northbound on Dixwell Avenue. A second vehicle, which also made contact with him, stopped at the accident scene.”

Hamden Police are asking the operator of a light-colored, 4-door vehicle, with probable right front-end damage, to contact the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division immediately at (203) 230-4036. Anyone that has information regarding this incident, is asked to contact the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division.
