No Current Plans For Quinnipiac Hockey Parade, Hamden Mayor Says

The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey teamcaptured their first national championship in program history on April 8.

HAMDEN, CT — The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team took home the national championship against Minnesota on April 8, and a celebration was held at QU's M&T Bank Arena this week.

But there are currently no plans to hold a parade in Hamden to honor the newly-crowned champions despite demand, the Hartford Courant reported.

According to the Hartford Courant, Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett appeared on WPLR's "Chaz and AJ Show" this week and said that while discussions had taken place with the university, Quinnipiac preferred to hold an on-campus celebration, and the decision is up to them.

"It’s a private school, I don’t have the ability to enforce decisions," Garrett said. "Certainly there would be a lot of work involved and planning. We would be more than happy to do all that planning, we just have to have willing participants."

In last weekend's national championship, Quinnipiac scored the tying goal with just under 3 minutes left in regulation and then the game winning goal just 10 seconds into overtime to defeat Minnesota 3-2.
