Obituary: Donald H. Hasbrouck, 87; Former Hamden Police Deputy Chief
Don was a proud public servant, having been a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp, and 28 years as a Hamden police officer.

Donald H. Hasbrouck, Ret. Deputy Chief, Hamden PD, 87, of Wallingford passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 14, 2016 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. He was born June 13, 1929 to the late Edith and Thaddeus Hasbrouck.
Don was predeceased by the love of his life, Beverly (Searle) Hasbrouck after 64 years of marriage. He is survived by four daughters, Linda Ruggiero of West Haven, Carol (Donald) Forand of Wallingford, Mary Hasbrouck of Middletown and Vicki (Russell) Arpin of Cheshire, as well as his brother, Thad Hasbrouck; son-in-law Ken Ruggiero; and very dear family friend Lynn Piascyk.

Donald was Pop to grandchildren Kristine (Marc) D'Andrea, Melissa Ruggiero (MJ Ingram), Kimberly (John) DeLuca, Kenny Ruggiero, Rebecca Flyntz, Nicole (Michael) Petersen and Tyler Arpin (Stephanie Miller) and five great-grandchildren; Aubrey and John DeLuca, Colton D'Andrea, Kaitlyn and Joshua Flyntz. He will be fondly remembered by many friends and extended family members.
Don was a proud public servant, having been a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp serving as part of the first HMX-1, an elite experimental helicopter squadron during the Korean War. He was a University of New Haven graduate and trained in the FBI Academy, served 28 years as a Hamden Police Officer retiring as Deputy Chief, and subsequently was employed at Southern Connecticut State University where he was the Director of Public Safety and ultimately retired.

After living in Hamden 58 years, Don and Bev retired to Woodsville, New Hampshire, where they enjoyed many years of lakeside tranquility before returning to Wallingford to be closer to their ever-growing family. He was a mentor to many, second father to some, generous with his time and active in his community. He was an avid woodworker making treasured pieces for family and friends. His legacy is in the hearts and homes of both family and friends. He was a parishioner of the Yalesville Methodist Church in Wallingford, member of Ashlar Village #116 O.E.S. and Past Patron of Alice Chapter #76 O.E.S, Past Master of Day Spring Lodge #30 and member of Ashlar Lodge #332 and Grafton Lodge #48, member of the Ancient and Accepted of Scottish Rite, 32° Mason.
Donald's family would like to thank all the staff at Midstate Medical Center who were so compassionate with his end-of-life care.
Friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Sept. 3, 2016 at 3:30 PM in the Knapp Auditorium located in the Bridgehouse at Masonicare at Ashlar Village in Wallingford. Interment with Military Honors will be private. Arrangements are in care of Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden.
