Obituary: Michael V. Santello Sr., 81; Former Hamden Resident

Michael, a proud veteran of the U. S. Army, was an active member of the Wallingford Parks and Rec. Basketball and Softball Senior Leagues.

Michael V. Santello Sr., 81, of Yalesville, beloved husband of the late Gaile (Sharron) Santello, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, December 24, 2016, at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford.

Michael was born in New Haven, January 13, 1935, a son of the late Emil Santello and Lillian (Bascilicato) Santello and had been a resident of Hamden, North Haven and Yalesville for many years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Michael was employed as a heavy equipment operator, and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478, for over 50 years. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Michael served with the Army Corps of Engineers Company 535, 1st Platoon. He was a member of the American Legion Post 76 of North Haven and the Wallingford Elks Lodge 1365. Michael was also a very active member of the Wallingford Parks and Rec. Basketball and Softball Senior Leagues.

He is survived by his three children Michael V. Santello Jr. and wife Kelly, of Meriden, Joanne Petrucelli of Meriden and David Santello and wife Shelly of Wallingford; his 6 grandchildren; his sisters Rosemary (Mrs. Edward) Riccio of Madison and Dorothy (Mrs. Robert) Cavanaugh of Hamden; his brother Richard “Vinny” Santello and wife Rosalie of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Emil “Moe” Santello.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Tuesday, December 27, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 28, at 10 am. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Road, Yalesville. Those attending the Mass are asked to meet directly at church. Interment with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Michael may be made out to his family, c/o The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville, CT. 06492. Michael’s family will use the gifts received in his memory and make a donation to the Wallingford Parks and Rec. Senior Leagues.
