Police are asking for help with identifying a man they say struck a pedestrian while driving off as officers were conducting a welfare check

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden Police are asking for help with identifying a man they say struck a pedestrian while driving off as officers were conducting a welfare check. At about 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 26, police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Arch Street on the report of a man sleeping inside a vehicle that was parked in a nearby parking lot, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Moments later, officers briefly spoke with the man, who was seated inside of a black Nissan Maxima. Smith said the man immediately started his vehicle and quickly exited the parking lot. His vehicle subsequently struck a pedestrian, a 53-year-old Hamden resident who was walking on the sidewalk, according to Smith.

Smith said the pedestrian, who sustained “pain on his left side,” was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.
