Police Cracking Down On Distracted Driving In Hamden
Hamden Police announce the "U Drive. U Text. U Pay" campaign in which special patrols targeting distracted drivers will be deployed.

HAMDEN, CT — Between April 4 and April 30, Hamden Police will be partnering with the Connecticut Department of Transportation as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the department announced on Monday.
Officers will be looking for distracted drivers as part of the “U Drive. U Text. U Pay” campaign. This endeavor is a high visibility effort to enforce distracted driving laws.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,477 people were killed and an estimated 391,000 injured, in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2015.

“The Hamden Police Department and the Connecticut Department of Transportation urge motorists to put down the phone when getting behind the wheel,” police said in a press release. “If it’s necessary to text, park your vehicle in a safe location first.”
