Rescued Rabbit Heads To Hopalong Hollow: Hamden Police
The rabbit, which was injured and malnourished, was recently rescued in Hamden.
HAMDEN, CT — An injured rabbit that was recently rescued in Hamden has recovered and has been transferred to “Hopalong Hollow” in Norwalk, according to police. On April 15, the Hamden Animal Control responded to Sherman Avenue on the report of an injured rabbit. Central Communications reported that the rabbit “was possibly domesticated” and that it was suffering from a leg injury, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said Assistant Animal Control Officer Mitch Gibbs responded and the rabbit, who appeared “friendly,” readily approached him. The rabbit was immediately taken to the North Haven Animal Hospital for medical treatment. It was determined that the rabbit was suffering from a serious infection in its hind limbs, Smith said.
“For the past three weeks, the Hamden Animal Control Division has closely monitored and medicated the rabbit,” Smith wrote in a press release. “The malnourished rabbit has gained weight. We are happy to report, that with the assistance of the Connecticut Humane Society, the rabbit has been transferred to Hopalong Hollow, a rabbit rescue, based in Norwalk.”
