Road Closures, Detours Announced For Marathon In Cheshire, Hamden

The annual Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K will take place Sunday, April 30. Read the list of road closures and detours here.

CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire Police have announced several road closures and detours that will take place in Cheshire and Hamden this weekend for the sixth annual Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K. The event will take place on Sunday, April 30 and begins at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to continue until at least 12:30 p.m.

Police said the race requires many road closures and detours to allow for a safe environment for the competitors and spectators. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Roads affected are in the southern portion of Cheshire, according to police, and include, but are not limited to: South Main Street, Higgins Road, Oak Avenue, Cornwall Avenue, Ward Lane, Mountain Road, North and South Brooksvale Road, Mt. Sanford Road, Avon Boulevard, and most side streets off of these main through roads, along with Brooksvale Road and River Road in Hamden.

“Please make necessary arrangements to avoid the area if possible,” Cheshire Police said in a press release. “Numerous officers will be located throughout the race route and traffic detour to assist with the traffic and pedestrian traffic.”

The detour is set up for traffic to flow northbound along Route 10 (South Main Street), southbound along Mountain Road, westbound along Route 68/79 (West Main Street) and eastbound along River Road in Hamden.
