School Bus Crashes Into Utility Pole, No Students Were on Board: Hamden Police

A school bus, which was not carrying any passengers, veered off the road and struck a utility pole on Monday. No injuries were reported.

HAMDEN, CT — A school bus, which was not carrying any students, crashed into a utility pole on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden on Monday afternoon. The bus driver was not injured in the crash, according to police.

Hamden Police responded to the scene, in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Scott Street, at about 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 31 and investigation revealed that the First Student school bus was traveling northbound on Dixwell Avenue when it veered off the road and struck a utility pole, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

The utility pole snapped, causing overhead wires to fall on top of the school bus. The Hamden Fire Department responded and determined that the wires were a part of the traffic light system, Smith said.

The school bus was not carrying any passengers at the time of the crash, according to Smith.

Officer Kevin Hall of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division is conducting the investigation.
