Several Cars Burglarized, 1 Stolen Overnight In Hamden: Police

Police are investigating after 8 vehicles were burglarized and another was stolen during the overnight hours on Friday.

HAMDEN, CT — Police are investigating after eight vehicles were burglarized and another vehicle was stolen during the overnight hours in Hamden on Friday. At about 3 a.m. on Oct. 19, Officer Luis Rivera was on patrol in the area of Oberlin Road and noticed that the interior lights were illuminated in several parked motor vehicles, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said further investigation revealed that eight vehicles were forcibly entered. The larcenies and tampering occurred on Oberlin Road, Loller Road, Lynmot Road and Wilmot Road. Smith said a vehicle was stolen from a Wilmot Road residence.

Shortly thereafter, Officer Michael White located an 18-year-old New Haven resident walking in the area. Smith said a computer inquiry revealed that there was a warrant for his arrest. The warrant, which originated from Hamden, was for a crime that the 18-year-old committed when he was a juvenile. He was subsequently arrested and taken to police headquarters. The 18-year-old New Haven resident was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Oct. 26.

Police are continuing to investigate the car burglaries.

“Hamden Police would like to advise residents to take several precautions,” Smith said. “First, if possible, vehicles should be parked in a well-lit area. Vehicles should be locked at all times. It is extremely important to remove ALL valuables from the vehicle, including small change. Finally, residents are encouraged to contact the Hamden Police Department whenever suspicious activity is observed.”
