Shoplifter Threatened To Shoot Security At Stop & Shop: Hamden PD

Police are asking for help identifying a man they say attempted to steal $300 worth of items and threatened to shoot a security officer.

HAMDEN, CT — Police are asking for help identifying a man they say attempted to steal $300 worth of merchandise from Stop & Shop and threatened to shoot a security officer. Police responded to Stop & Shop, located at 2335 Dixwell Avenue, on Nov. 17 on the report of shoplifting, involving a threat, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that an individual, described as a black male with a heavy build, mustache and beard, left the store without paying for $300 worth of merchandise. A loss prevention officer attempted to detain the individual, who subsequently left the stolen merchandise in the parking lot, according to Smith.

The man then told the loss prevention officer that he was in the possession of a gun and that he would shoot him, according to Smith. The loss prevention officer immediately backed away, Smith said. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.
