See below for a full rundown of what transpired from State Police spokeswoman Kelly Grant:
Approx. 2:55 a.m. Old Saybrook Police Department notified Troop F-Westbrook of three suspicious vehicles with suspects attempting to break into vehicles in their town.
The vehicles were reported to have entered I-95 southbound and were traveling in the area of Troop F. Troopers immediately exited Troop F and began searching for the suspect vehicles described as a 2008 Mercury Mariner, 2004 Jeep Liberty and 2003 Toyota Camry.
Troopers located the vehicles and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The three vehicles refused to stop and continued traveling southbound I-95. All three vehicles attempted to exit I-95 at exit 56.
Once exiting the highway, the Mercury Mariner struck an embankment and crashed in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot in the area of East Industrial Road/Leetes Island Road in Branford.
The operator/suspect fled on foot. The Jeep Liberty and Toyota Camry continued traveling, eventually onto Route 1 into East Haven. Troopers terminated the pursuit for safety.
Several minutes later East Haven Police Department contacted Troop F reporting that the Jeep Liberty struck a house on Dodge Road in East Haven. The operator/suspect fled on foot. The Toyota Camry fled. A State Police K9 team responded to Branford to assist with locating the operator/suspect. Suspect not located.
Troop G responded to East Haven to assist in the search. A New Haven Police Department K9 team responded to East Haven to assist with locating the operator/suspect. Suspect not located.
No injuries were reported to troopers or public, no crashes or vehicle damage were reported to cruisers or civilian vehicles.
The Jeep Liberty was reported stolen out of Hamden on Nov. 8. The Jeep, with at least, three suspects traveled to Clinton sometime during the over night and stole two vehicles (Mercury and Toyota) out of Clinton.
After stealing the two vehicles in Clinton the suspects traveled to Old Saybrook where they attempted to steal or break-in to more vehicles. A car alarm sounded causing them to flee the area.
A resident observed the vehicles and contacted Old Saybrook Police Department with the vehicle descriptions which Old Saybrook Police Department relayed to Troop F.
The Mercury and Toyota were reported to be unlocked with the keys nearby. Troopers remind residents to remove the keys and lock their vehicles.
