Student Arrested For Threat, Found With Machete: Hamden Police

A Hamden High School student was arrested after making a threat on social media against other students and possessing a machete, police said

HAMDEN, CT — A 17-year-old Hamden High School student was arrested after making a threat on social media against other students and was found to be in the possession of a machete, according to police. At about 8 p.m. on Oct. 4, Hamden Police were notified of a potential threat that was made against high school students on social media, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

After seeing the threat on social media, the Hamden High School community immediately notified the administrative staff and police were promptly contacted and an investigation was conducted, Smith said. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.

The 17-year-old student was arrested on charges of threatening, breach of peace and possession of a dangerous weapon (machete). He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven.

“The Hamden Police Department would like to acknowledge the collective effort by students and the Hamden High School administrative staff in preventing a potential crisis,” Smith said.
