Teen, 18, Charged In Robbery Of Nurse In Hamden: Police

A 63-year-old nurse was assaulted and robbed of her purse as she was walking in to work last month in Hamden, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — An 18-year-old New Haven resident is accused of assaulting and robbing a nurse while she was walking to work last month in Hamden, according to police.

Levante Player was arrested on a warrant Sunday after he was detained by New Haven police in the area of Whalley Avenue and Sherman Avenue, according to Hamden Capt. Ronald Smith.

Player was arrested in connection with the incident that happened Nov. 11 in the parking lot of Arden House. The 63-year-old woman arrived at work around 6:15 a.m. and parked her vehicle in the parking lot. As she was walking toward the building, she was approached by a man who tried to grab her purse and punched her in the chest and shoulder, Smith said at the time.

Two other suspects got out of an SUV and demanded her belongings. They stole her purse, which contained $300 and credit cards, according to Smith.

Player, 18, was charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree assault of an elderly person. He was being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 22.
