Teen Caught Breaking into Vehicles at Hamden Mart: Police

A witness called police after seeing the suspect trying to enter vehicles in the parking lot early Thursday morning.

HAMDEN, CT — A 17-year-old Hamden resident was caught trying to break into vehicles in the Hamden Mart parking lot early Thursday morning, according to police.

Police responded to the Hamden Mart, 2300 Dixwell Avenue, at about 6 a.m. on Jan. 26 on the report of suspicious activity, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said a witness had observed an individual attempt to illegally enter parked motor vehicles.

Upon arrival officers conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of a juvenile who was located in the vicinity of the Hamden Mart.

The juvenile, a 17-year-old Hamden resident, was charged with criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary. He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Feb. 9.
