Teens Caught Fleeing In Stolen Vehicle: Hamden Police
Two teens were arrested while others got away during the overnight hours. Two police cruisers were involved in crashes during the incident.

HAMDEN, CT — Two teens were arrested after police say they were caught trying to flee in a stolen vehicle during the overnight hours on Thursday. Hamden Police responded to the area of West Woods Road at about 2:30 a.m. on June 28, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. Police found that several individuals were forcibly entering parked cars and the suspects were traveling in three different vehicles.
“Moments later, Sergeant Michael Sigmon observed the three vehicles on Old Coach Highway,” Smith wrote in a press release. “He engaged one of the individuals in a foot pursuit. The foot pursuit was unsuccessful. The individuals then entered the three vehicles and fled at a high rate of speed. Sergeant Sigmon’s police vehicle, which was unoccupied, was struck by one of the fleeing vehicles.
“Shortly thereafter, Officer Eric Hallstrom pursued one of the vehicles on Whitney Avenue. The operator of the vehicle, ‘slammed on his brakes,’ causing Officer Hallstrom’s vehicle to strike the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Southington.”

The two occupants, both juveniles, were promptly arrested, according to Smith.
The juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were each charged with second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, third-degree burglary and escape from custody from a state institution. They were both remanded to custody, according to Smith.
