Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Bust In Hamden: Police

Police say the driver was found with drugs and arrested while the passenger ran away as the officer was approaching the vehicle.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he was found to be in the possession of drugs during a traffic stop, according to police. At about 1:15 a.m. on March 6, police saw a speeding vehicle on Goodrich Street, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said a computer search showed that the operator had a suspended license and a motor vehicle stop was conducted on Bassett Street in New Haven. While the officer was approaching the vehicle, the passenger ran away, according to Smith. A K-9 track was unsuccessful in locating the passenger.

Police located a small amount of marijuana, 10 Oxycodone pills, drug paraphernalia and $245 inside of the vehicle, according to Smith. The operator of the vehicle, Erin Godfrey-Jones, was in the possession of 21.6 grams of marijuana and $249, Smith said.

Godfrey-Jones, 22, of Pond Street in New Haven, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, sale of a controlled substance, illegal possession of prescription drugs, illegal sale of prescription drugs and failure to keep narcotics in original container. Godfrey-Jones is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 20.
