Transit Bus Strikes Police Cruiser During Traffic Stop: Hamden PD
The officer was conducting a traffic stop for a car that passed a standing school bus when the cruiser was struck.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden Police vehicle was struck by a Connecticut Transit bus while the officer was conducting a traffic stop for a car passing a standing school bus on Thursday morning, according to police. At about 7:50 a.m. on Aug. 30, a vehicle was stopped on Dixwell Avenue, in the vicinity of Mather Street, for passing a standing school bus, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said the officer opened the driver’s side door to exit the police vehicle and upon opening the door, a Connecticut Transit bus struck it. The door “was bent backwards” and struck the officer in the leg, according to Smith. No injuries were reported and the police vehicle was towed from the scene.
