Woman Charged with Criminal Impersonation: Hamden Police

Police say the woman, who had active arrest warrants from several other towns, was arrested as part of an identity theft investigation.

HAMDEN, CT — A woman who was wanted on arrest warrants out of Milford, New Haven and Wallingford, was arrested in Hamden as part of an identity theft investigation, according to police.

Hamden Police Officer William May conducted an identity theft investigation that lead to the arrest of Shaqwaveia Payne on Jan. 20, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said Payne, who was wanted by several other jurisdictions, including Milford, New Haven and Wallingford, was arrested at a Warner Street address.

Payne, 28, of Lodge Street in New Haven, was charged with criminal impersonation. She was detained on a $1,000 bond is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Feb. 3.

In addition, Payne was arrested on the strength of four arrest warrants, which originated out of Milford, New Haven and Wallingford. She was additionally charged with first-degree failure to appear and three counts of second-degree failure to appear.
