Woman Charged With Stabbing Husband In Chest During Dispute: Hamden Police

Police found the woman hiding in the basement and say the couple's young child was sleeping during the incident.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden woman is accused of stabbing her husband in the chest during a dispute early Friday morning while their young child was sleeping, according to police.

Hamden Police responded to a Newhall Street address at about 4:30 a.m. on March 10 on the report of a domestic dispute involving a stabbing.

Responding officers were met at the front door by Travis King, 30, who subsequently collapsed, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Sgt. David Ng rendered medical assistance until Hamden Fire Rescue arrived on the scene.

King was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital after suffering a puncture wound in the chest, according to Smith.

Smith said that a preliminary investigation revealed that King’s wife, Sheila Gilbert-King, stabbed him with a knife. Their young child was asleep during the incident, according to Smith.

Officers located Gilbert-King hiding in the basement and she was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Sheila Gilbert-King, 30, of Newhall Street, was arrested on charges of first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. Gilbert-King is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 13.
