HAMDEN, CT — A 64-year-old woman died after drowning in a pool Wednesday afternoon in Hamden, according to police. Hamden Police responded to Shepard Avenue at about 4 p.m. on June 26 on the report of a drowning, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Emergency crews from the Hamden Fire Department attempted to resuscitate the 64-year-old woman and she was promptly taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment, according to Smith. She died shortly thereafter, Smith said.

Smith said a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s husband found her “face down” in the family pool and he immediately jumped into the pool and attempted to keep her head above water. A neighbor also rushed to the scene to lend assistance, according to Smith.
