HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven woman has been arrested in connection to threatening emails that were sent to staff members at Hamden High School on Monday morning. Police responded to Hamden High School at about 10 a.m. on Jan. 14 on a threatening complaint, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that a threatening email was sent to three Hamden High School staff members. School officials immediately implemented their Emergency Operation Plan and contacted the Hamden Police Department, according to Smith.
“Approximately one hour later, a second threatening email was received by the Hamden High School Administration,” Smith wrote in a press release. “Detective Mark Sheppard immediately assumed the investigation, working collaboratively with the school administration. Detective Sheppard, along with Detective Brian Stewart and Officer Shawn Nutcher worked into the night and were able to identify Ajaunna Laudat, a ‘temporary contracted employee’ at Hamden High School as a suspect.”
Det. Joseph Liguori interviewed Laudat Tuesday morning at Hamden Police Headquarters and she confessed to sending the threatening emails, according to Smith. Laudat told police that she wanted the students to leave early, according to Smith.
Laudat, 21, of Pardee Place in New Haven, was charged with first-degree threatening, falsely reporting an incident and second-degree breach of peace. Laudat, who was detained on a $100,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 25.
“This incident was resolved quickly through the efforts and collegial cooperation between Hamden Public Schools and the Hamden Police Department,” Smith said. “Hamden Police would like to commend the efforts displayed by Hamden High School students and staff for their cooperation during this incident.”
