HAMDEN, CT — Firefighters worked to rescue a woodchuck that hid in a vehicle’s engine compartment over the weekend. The cagey critter eventually eluded its “rescuers” for a new hiding spot.

“Engine 3 on scene to assist a woodchuck from his hiding place in an engine compartment. All in a day’s work!,” fire officials wrote in a post on Twitter on Saturday.

The fire department later shared an update with a photo of the woodchuck in the engine compartment.

“Are you looking at me?,” officials wrote in the tweet. “#Hamden woodchuck evades “rescuers” and flees engine compartment for a more hospitable napping location!”
