Federal Flood Funds Announced For Hartford's North End

U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy were in Hartford Friday to announce federal funding released for 2021 flood victims.

HARTFORD, CT — In 2021, when Connecticut was under siege from multiple tropical storms, one Hartford neighborhood was slammed with historic flooding.

Those floods damaged homes, caused sewage backups in homes, and flooded basements.

Since, the state and federal governments have been scrambling to try and help those property owners, with Connecticut's U.S. Senate delegation in Hartford Friday morning to announce further aid.

In 2021, North Hartford residents experienced devastating flooding that overloaded the city’s stormwater system leading to sewage backups in homes, flooded basements and destroyed property.

"With this $4.5 million from the federal government, the City of Hartford will be able to upgrade existing stormwater infrastructure — mitigating the risk of future flooding incidents and preventing serious damage in the future," wrote the senators in a joint statement.

The federal funding is on top of $85 million in state funding approved a year ago to combat infrastructure issues believed to have led to the flooding.
