Fires Displace 9 Residents In Hartford Monday

The American Red Cross is helping four total families, including one child, after fires ravaged two separate structures Monday.

HARTFORD, CT — Nine people are being helped by the state's chapter of the American Red Cross following two separate fires in Connecticut's capital city Monday.

According to the Red Cross of the Connecticut and Rhode Island Region, the chapter is helping:

• Three families — six adults — after a fire Monday on Hungerford Street in Hartford.

• One family — one adult, two children — after a fire Monday on Capen Street, Hartford.

In each instance, the Red Cross met the families’ immediate needs.

The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items, and more.

The Red Cross also provided comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies, and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire.

Red Cross caseworkers will contact those affected in the coming days to develop a longer-term recovery plan.

The Red Cross assists with the help of donors and volunteers.
