MinuteClinic offers clinically supervised weight-loss care in Connecticut
Program combines in-person and virtual lifestyle coaching, nutritional guidance, and FDA-approved weight-loss medications, when appropriate

With more than 40% of U.S. adults currently estimated to have obesity and numerous studies suggesting that ~50% are projected to have obesity by 2030, there is an urgent need for safe, effective and accessible weight management solutions. In Connecticut alone, 29% of adults are living with obesity. To directly address this need, MinuteClinic®, the medical clinic inside select CVS Pharmacy® stores, is helping adults 18 and older achieve clinically meaningful weight loss both in-person and virtually in Connecticut via the MinuteClinic Weight-Loss Program.
Obesity is a chronic condition that increases the risk of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and certain cancers, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And, despite the American Medical Association’s recognition of obesity as a chronic disease more than two decades ago, comprehensive medical evaluation and effective obesity treatments can be difficult to find in routine clinical practices, with research suggesting that fewer than 5% of individuals eligible for evidence-based weight management treatments actually receive them.

To help close this treatment gap, the MinuteClinic Weight-Loss Program delivers personalized, medically supervised care designed to support chronic disease prevention and long-term health. Board-certified nurse practitioners and physician associates assess diet, physical activity, behavioral factors and underlying health conditions before recommending individualized treatment plans. When clinically appropriate, providers may prescribe FDA-approved weight-loss medications, including GLP-1 therapies, alongside ongoing nutrition counseling and lifestyle coaching[1]. MinuteClinic can also serve as a primary care provider to eligible patients 18 years and older.
If an individual is not a healthy weight, even modest weight loss can help improve their blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. For example, 5 to 10% weight loss can result in lowering a person’s risk of heart disease and hypertension. Medically supervised weight management programs can lead to better results and more sustainable outcomes with enhanced adherence to lifestyle adjustments and other protocols.

Accessible community-based care delivers clinically meaningful weight-loss results
As of 2026, results from the MinuteClinic Weight-Loss Program demonstrate strong outcomes in a community-based care setting:
- 85% of patients lost weight within their first three months in the program
- 60% of patients lost over 5% of their weight in five or more months of treatment
- 95% of patients were seen for their first visit in less than one week from scheduling[2]
“National Nutrition Month is a timely reminder to seek nutritional guidance as part of a healthy weight loss journey,” says David Fairchild, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Retail Health, CVS Health. “According to the CDC, people with healthy eating patterns live longer and are at a lower risk for obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This type of ongoing support from providers is an important part of MinuteClinic’s Weight-Loss Program. We offer a safe and effective collaboration between patient and provider, ensuring appropriate use of medications, continuous monitoring and support beyond a single prescription.”
Care that goes beyond a prescription
Unlike online-only prescribing platforms or do-it-yourself approaches, MinuteClinic provides a comprehensive medical evaluation, appropriate prescribing and continuous follow-up care – with virtual and in-person options. Patients receive ongoing monitoring and support to help ensure medications are used responsibly and effectively. Providers can also identify and address related chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension, helping close additional care gaps during treatment.
Connecticut residents can access the MinuteClinic Weight-Loss Program in person or virtually seven days a week, including evenings and weekends.
