Murder-Suicide Increases Hartford's July Death Toll: Reports

A man and woman were found shot and killed inside a Hartford apartment Monday evening, the 6th and 7th people killed since July 15.

HARTFORD, CT — The capital city's deadly July continued Monday night with Hartford police investigating an apparent murder-suicide, according to multiple reports.

WFSB Channel 3 reports the incident happened at a Russ Street apartment at approximately 8 p.m.

That's when police found a man and a woman shot dead inside the apartment unit, WFSB reported.

Police have identified the two found dead as being Irving Lollar, 35, of Hartford, and Crystal Cooper, 24, of Hartford, according to WFSB.

WVIT Channel 30 reported that police have identified Cooper as being the murder victim.

The unit where the incident took place is about a block away from Connecticut's capitol building, according to WVIT.

It's been an especially tragic month in Hartford, with police scrambling multiple times to investigate crimes that resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals, many of them shootings.

On Saturday, July 15, four people were shot in a Hartford apartment building with two people killed. The search for a suspect continues.

Two days later, on Monday, July 17, a 64-year-old woman was shot and killed in an apparent domestic incident that evening with a 63-year-old man being taken into custody.

The next day Tuesday, July 18, a man in his 20s was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting outside a pizza restaurant on Barbour Street, an apparent innocent, untargeted victim.

An elderly man, also believed to be an unintendent target, was also badly wounded in that incident and the investigation into that shooting continues.

Finally, on Saturday, July 22, a 2-year-old boy fell out of an apartment window on Capitol Avenue and died two days later on Monday, July 24.

The child's 34-year-old mother has been charged with multiple counts of risk of injury to a minor in connection with that incident. It is not known if more charges are pending.

Five children living in the apartment were alone at the time of the incident.
