My name is Kevin McDonald and I have been selected to represent Ledyard, Connecticut, and the U.S.A., as a
People to People Student Ambassador. I am a junior at Ledyard High School, a varsity member of the football, wrestling and lacrosse teams, and a volunteer cadet captain at the Ledyard Fire Department. I look forward to representing Ledyard, Connecticut as I embark as an ambassador.
On July 4, 2013, I will join a delegation of students my age on a nineteen day educational program that will take us through Ireland, Wales, England, London, Isle of Wright, then to France. We will head to Normandy to walk the beaches of Normandy and pay our respects to the 9,386 soldiers who were killed on the beaches in Normandy in 1944. During my nineteen day trip I will be learning
about other cultures and doing community service projects in small villages.
It will be an experience of a lifetime, and I am excited to be a part of this program!

The People to People program began with a vision by President Eisenhower in 1956 in which he stated, “Give everyday citizens of different countries the
opportunity to meet and get to know each other, and the result will be understanding, friendship, and lasting peace.” As the world becomes smaller, it is more essential that we begin to understand one another’s
cultures and belief systems so we are able to come together as global citizens of this world. We will have the opportunity to stay with host families, eat ethnic food, learn their cultures and perhaps teach them some of ours.

I am paying my way and raising money to pay for the program. I have been doing odd jobs, and reaching out to the community and local businesses.
I am also hosting a Pasta Dinner, March 8, 2013 at 6 pm. The dinner will be held at the American Legion Post, 457 Laurel Hill Avenue, Norwich. Tickets are $10 for Adults, $5 for Seniors and Children, and take out is available.
Would you be willing to help me sponsor my trip? I am willing to do odd jobs for you, or speak at your community organization about my experiences upon my return.
I am also collecting old phones and used inkjet cartridges. If you have any of these you would like picked up, or would like more information, please call me or send me an email.
Thank you for supporting me in my goal to explore and understand other countries in my endeavor to become a global citizen.
