Join HVA volunteer and Yankee Magazine travel editor Kim Knox Beckius at Topsmead State Forest for an inspiring hour of writing "in the wild." Through suggested prompts and sharing opportunities, you'll find new words to express what you see, hear, and feel, as well as a community of people eager to pause and pick up a pen.&nbsp; 
No writing experience is required. Please bring a notebook, writing pad, or journal and pencil or pen, plus a portable chair or blanket. We will meet at 11 a.m. near the Topsmead State Forest parking lot.&nbsp; 

All attendees will be entered into a random drawing for two General Admission tickets to <a href="https://www.tradesecretsct.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Trade Secrets</a>, Connecticut's renowned garden and antiques event, on Sunday, May 17, at Lime Rock Park in Salisbury.

AM: Reading and Drawing the Stories of our Biblical Mothers
In an integrative approach to learning, we’ll draw forth stories of Biblical women by learning together.&nbsp; We’ll look at some of the stories of women’s lives and choices. Then we’ll create and draw our associations with the stories. How do their values, choices and roles hold pieces of our stories?
Co-taught by a minister and a rabbi, Rev. Janet McKinstry and Rabbi Andrea Cohen-Kiener. Both are loving scholars of sacred texts and Janet, additionally, is a skilled craftsperson. She works in multiple media and loves to make opportunities for others to tap into their creativity and inner artist.&nbsp; Learning for the Right and the Left Hemisphere!
PM: Myths, Metaphor and Meaning: Tools for Interfaith Dialogue.
Some experiences are hard to put into words. But they might be put into a metaphor or a teaching story. We learn history and theology from our scriptures, and there is also a language of symbols, parables and metaphors. Jesus of Nazareth surely taught that way. Perhaps the most important lessons are both hidden and revealed in stories, archetypes and metaphors.
Building on the insights of Maurice Nicoll in Parables of the New Man, we’ll look for a common language of symbology, that can help Jews and Christians find common understanding and meaning.

This ninety-minute Zoom program is not an academic class focused on crafting "good" writing, but a contemplative experience that explores how celebrated poets create uplifting and spiritually healing poems. Through guided inspiration from selected works, participants will discover how poetry can become a tool for emotional healing. The focus is not on better writing, but on writing that makes us feel better. The session will include writing and sharing insights. Whether you are new to writing or a seasoned poet – even if you’ve never written – this supportive and encouraging online workshop invites you to learn to ease stress, anxiety and trauma by writing your own healing poems.
