Survivors of Coach's Abuse Gather with Litchfield Community for Truth and Healing Event
October 22, 2025 (Litchfield, Connecticut) - Members of the Litchfield community will come together on the historic town green with survivors, friends, and families affected by the sexual abuse perpetrated by celebrated running and swimming coach David Driscoll. The event, titled “A Gathering for Truth and Healing,” will take place on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m.
David Driscoll, who passed away on September 14, 2025, was accused in the 1980s and 1990s of sexually abusing middle school boys in Litchfield, Connecticut and at Wild Goose Camp in Maine. A police investigation conducted in the early 1990s sought authorization to arrest Driscoll on multiple felony counts of child sexual abuse. Prosecutors declined to proceed at the time, citing the victims’ unwillingness to testify. Despite multiple reports to school officials and community leaders, Driscoll continued to coach for years.
Speakers at this event will include:
- Amy (Schildgen) Sobek (LHS Class of '95)
- Nate Litwin (LHS Class of '94)
- John Fitterer (LHS Class of '94)
- Dan Bird (LHS Class of '96)
- Burke Gibney (LHS Class of '90)
- Jana Wu (LHS Class of '96)
- Rachel Bernhardt (Wamogo Class of '96)
The upcoming gathering aims to:
- Recognize and honor survivors of sexual abuse
- Provide a space for victims, families, and friends to share their experiences
- Foster compassion, healing, and community care
- Encourage open dialogue about the lifelong impact of abuse and the importance of truth-telling
