Board Of Selectmen OK $1.3M Purchase Of Property For New School

The 14.2-acre site on Mungertown Road would be home to the new Jeffery Elementary School, if voters agree in the February 2022 referendum.

MADISON, CT — The Madison Board of Selectmen Tuesday approved the purchase of the site known as the Jansen property on Mungertown Road for $1.3 million.

The 14.2-acre site would be home to the proposed new Jeffrey School, part of the Madison Public Schools' renewal plan.

The actual purchase is months away and would follow the Feb. 22, 2022 referendum on bonding for the schools' renewal plan, unless residents vote against it.

The purchase would include a 120-day period for the town to “get out from under (the purchase) if the wind blows the wrong way,” meaning if there were issues with deed restrictions, for example.

The purchase would also include myriad approvals following including environmental, zoning planning, and wetlands.
