Madison Democrats Announce a First Selectman Candidate

Local Democrats also unveiled their full slate of candidates this fall.

Joan Walker was officially endorsed by the Madison Town Committee as their candidate for First Selectwoman of Madison before a crowd of supporters last week.

Her endorsement was met with great enthusiasm and a unanimous vote of support, according to a release from Madison Democrats.

“I believe that this Town and its employees deserve a leader who will recognize and capitalize on quality work. One that will strive to eradicate genuine inefficiencies, and who will be accountable to the people.” said Walker in a prepared statement. “I am that leader.”

Here is the rest of the Madison Democrats’ statement regarding Walker’s nomination.

As a small business owner and a member of the Board of Selectmen, Walker has experience in both business and government. She also has a long history of service to her community as a CCD teacher at St. Margaret Church, a lighting designer for Night In Hand, and a parent volunteer for M.A.D.E. . “I have always believed that no matter one’s personal circumstances, there are people that you can benefit – and that you have a responsibility to give of yourself to them. This principle was instilled in me at an early age.” Walker said. “The real solutions to the issues we face as a town can be reached only when dedicated and talented individuals come together with the shared goal to benefit the community and ensure that our future is a bright one. That is what our town’s governance is all about; it is what I am all about, and why I am running for this office.”

Walker closed her speech by calling for change. “The vision we, your Democratic candidates, share—cannot be realized by any one individual. Only together, as a team, can the vision come to fruition. Together Al, Scott, and I along with the entire Democratic slate can achieve this vision. It is time for a change of leadership in Madison; the unresolved issues facing this community must be addressed with fresh thinking; fresh ideas. We, your Democratic slate, will do just that. ”

The rest of the slate includes, Al Goldberg and Scott Gyllensten for Board of Selectmen; Bennet Pudlin and Jason Ulstad for Board of Finance; Seth Klaskin and Katie Stein for Board of Education; Ned Moore for Zoning Board of Appeals; Pat Melady for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate and Judy Friedman for Board of Assessment Appeals.
