A local attorney asked if I would meet with two builders that haven’t built any new homes in a numbers of years. They have been flipping houses, as they weren’t comfortable buying lots and building in Connecticut. They were wise, based on what they have told me they were making on their flips.
The challenge they are having, is they can’t find enough single family homes at prices that will make enough profit. It turns out they are only looking for properties in one town and haven’t ventured beyond these boundaries. I listened to them explain that they know the building inspectors and all town officials and that was their reasoning for staying in one place.
The attorney knows that I flip homes as well, but I am not willing to restrict myself to only one area. When I told them the wide area that I will buy property they looked at me like I was crazy. I asked if the building officials would call their counter parts in another towns, they both nodded. So, I asked they if they did good work, they said absolutely, so why do you need anyone calling on your behalf unless there is a problem?
As we went along, you could see their eyes continue to light up, they were starting to see the light. The attorney could see more business coming his way and these two builders were now starting to see the possibilities. Isn’t it crazy how we get ourselves pigeonholed into only one way of thinking. Hopefully they continue growing their business.
