Cops Thwart Burglary At Buckland Hills Mall

MANCHESTER, CT — Police Saturday broke up a burglary in progress at the Buckland Hill mall in Manchester.

Police released details of the incident Monday afternoon.

In the late evening hours on Saturday Manchester officers were dispatched to the Macy's store inside the Shoppes at Buckland Hills after a security staffer reported monitoring three masked people breaking into jewelry displays and filling up backpacks with merchandise.

The first officers at the scene entered the building and immediately began chasing two juveniles on foot. They were both quickly taken into custody, according to an incident report.

The third suspect was believed to be hiding in the store and a Connecticut State Police dog out of the Troop C barracks was requested to help with the search, according to an incident report. A perimeter was established around the building with the assistance of South Windsor Police Department officers, but the third suspect, also a juvenile, was eventually taken into custody after being discovered in the store, according to an in incident report

All three juveniles were charged with:

• Third-degree burglary
• Second-degree criminal trespass
• Third-degree larceny
• Possession of burglary tools
• Interfering with police

In addition, two of the juveniles were charged with: possession of drug paraphernalia. All three juveniles were transferred to the custody of the Juvenile Detention Center in Hartford prior to their court appearance Monday, police said.

In total, officers recovered more than $7,800 in merchandise that the suspects attempted to steal, according to an incident report.
