Moped Rider Seriously Hurt In Buckland Hills Crash (patch.com) — A 35-year-old moped rider suffered life-threatening injuries after colliding with a car Thursday night near the Plaza at Buckland Hills on Pleasant Valley Road in Manchester. Police closed a stretch of Pleasant Valley Road for several hours and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Officer Nicholas Sinopoli as they continue investigating.
   

2. Runners Take Note: Manchester Road Race Early Bird Registration Discount Set To Expire (patch.com) — Manchester runners still have about a week to lock in the discounted $32 early-bird registration for this year's Thanksgiving Day Manchester Road Race, which starts and finishes on Main Street. Fees rise on October 1 and again in November, and every entry helps support Rebuilding Together of Manchester and Habitat for Humanity of North Central Connecticut.
   

3. Manchester man killed in East Hartford crash that shut down I-84 west on Wednesday, police say (thehour.com) — A 55-year-old Manchester resident, Gregory M. Allen, died after losing control of his SUV on I-84 west in East Hartford Wednesday morning, causing a several-hour highway closure. State police say his vehicle struck an exit sign and rolled over near Exit 57, and the crash remains under investigation. The highway reopened mid-morning, but the loss hits close to home for Manchester neighbors.
   

4. FEMA awards millions to emergency responders throughout Connecticut (wtnh.com) — Manchester's fire department is set to receive nearly $126,000 in FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant funding specifically for firefighter training. The award is part of almost $3.8 million going to departments across Connecticut for gear, vehicles, and safety initiatives, strengthening local readiness when major emergencies or disasters strike.
