MANCHESTER, CT — The David's Bridal store in Manchester was operating as usual Wednesday as the shadow of a massive layoff notice looms over that location, as well as Connecticut stores in Orange and Danbury.

A federal Worker Adjustments and Retraining Notification was filed with the Connecticut Department of Labor to begin the week. David’s Bridal also announced Monday that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. To end last week, David's announced it was to lay off just more than 900 workers.

The WARN notice outlines specific positions being trimmed nationwide, but does not match up any job with any particular store.

The chain operates three locations in Connecticut, including:

  • Manchester, at the Plaza at Burr Corners, 82-E Buckland St. and Tolland Turnpike
  • Danbury, at Danbury Square, 15 Backus Ave.
  • Orange, at 112-118 Boston Post Road

Officials for Pennsylvania-based David's said Monday the chain had filed voluntary petitions for bankruptcy in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, and will seek similar protection in Canada and the United Kingdom.

In a news release, David’s Bridal said both brick-and-mortar stores and online sales, including through its Pearl platform and vendor marketplace, will remain accessible to brides for their wedding planning needs. That's consistent with what the staff at the Manchester store said.No bride will be left behind, according to the staff.

The timetable affecting Connecticut is the retail store layoff window outlined in the WARN notice of between June 12 and Aug. 11. All three Connecticut locations are referenced in the layoff chart included in the WARN notice.

According to the WARN notice, no closing option has been "pinpointed." David's is in the process of "evaluating strategic options" that may or may not include a sale of the company, the sale of assets and intellectual property or a "wind down."
