Garden Center Plans In Manchester Weeding Through Regulatory Process

A garden center business has been proposed for a parcel in Manchester.

MANCHESTER, CT — An adjustment to a tricky zoning situation is needed to allow a garden center business to move into a section of Tolland Turnpike in Manchester.

Earlier this month, a Zoning Board of Appeals application was submitted that requested a variance to allow the retail sale of "plants and bushes" at 1672 Tolland Turnpike.

The application is for a garden center and nursery business.

Manchester planning officials said it needs a variance to operate at the location because, although horticulture and agriculture uses are permitted in the zone it's in the rural residence portion of it and the retail aspect for the sale of plants is not listed as a permitted use in that zone.
