Major Buckland Hills Road Project Proposed

A public information session is on tap to present a major Buckland Hills road project.

MANCHESTER, CT — A major Buckland Hills intersection is due for a new traffic light and other "safety improvements," town officials said.

Town officials said Monday that a public informational meeting for the proposed project on Buckland Street at the Buckland Hills Drive/Pleasant Valley Road intersection has been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hearing Room of the Lincoln Center, 494 Main St.

The proposed improvements include replacing the existing traffic control signal, removing the right-turn lane "channelizing islands" and other "appurtenant work," town officials said.

A preliminary assessment puts the project cost at approximately $903,000. It is expected that the construction phase of this project will be 90 percent funded under the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Local Accident Reduction Program, town officials said.

The remaining 10 percent will be funded through public works bond financing, town officials said.

The project's design phase is slated for this fall into the the summer, town officials said. Construction is proposed for the fall of 2018 into the Spring of 2019, town officials said.

Written commentary can be submitted either at the public informational meeting or delivered to Mr. Jeff LaMalva, P.E., Town Engineer, Town of Manchester Engineering Division, PO Box 191, Manchester, CT 06045-0191, on or before Oct. 6, town officials said. Comments may also be emailed to pwinfo@manchesterct.gov.

The Town's engineering staff will be available at the public meeting to answer questions on the project, town officials said.
