Manchester Man Charged with Making Terrorist Threat at Mohegan Sun

The man, 28, is accused of calling a casino and saying was associated with ISIS and that a bomb in a briefcase would go off in 25 minutes.

A 28-year-old Manchester man has been charged with threatening and terrorism in connection with a call made to the Mohegan Sun in which a man said a briefcase had been left at the casino with a bomb in it, according to the Day newspaper of New London.

Gary L. Kalinsky of 71 Waddell Rd., Manchester, was arrested Jan. 8 by Mohegan Tribal Police in connection with a 3:21 a.m. call on Nov. 18 to a phone number for patrons who lost items in the casino, according to the news report.

The Day, citing tribal police accounts, reported the caller had said he was connected with the terrorist group ISIS and the briefcase would explode in 25 minutes. Nothing was found by security officers checking the casino, and the local fire department was placed on standby duty.

According to the Day’s report: The police officer who received the phone call had taken an earlier call from Kalinsky for a lost briefcase and recognized the voice. The threatening caller’s phone number was traced back to Kalinsky. Kalinsky is charged with threatening, a felony, and terrorism, which can result in a longer prison sentence. He has been held in lieu of $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 28 in state Superior Court in Norwich.
