Manchester Police Chase Down Stolen Car With Three Teens In It

Police Dog Camo had a paw in the arrest, according to a news release.

MANCHESTER, CT - Manchester police intercepted a stolen car that was speeding through the center of town on Monday with three teens in it.

At 3 p.m., Manchester police received a phone call about a gray Hyundai Genesis being operated in an erratic manner in the area of Washington School and Cooper Street, according to a news release.

After obtaining the vehicle’s license plate, the car was determined to be stolen out of West Hartford., according to a news release.

The vehicle was observed by a sergeant a short time later on Park Street, according to a news release.

When the sergeant attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off at a high rate of speed in an effort to elude police, according to a news release. The vehicle then traveled onto Chestnut Street, Center Street, and various side streets before heading westbound on Spencer Street, according to a news release.

The car then struck another vehicle in on the highway overpass approaching the East Hartford line, Manchester police said.

There were no reported injuries from the vehicle that was struck, Manchester police said.

The three occupants, of the stolen vehicle then fled from the scene and all three suspects were apprehended a short time later, according to a news release.

One of whom was apprehended with the assistance of police dog Camo, who was hiding in some brush along Interstate-384 with Canine Officer Joshua Eastwood, according to a news release.

A 14-year-old juvenile was identified as the operator of the stolen vehicle and was charged with risk of injury to a minor, first-degree larceny, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, engaging an officer in a pursuit, operating a motor vehicle without a license and Interfering with police, according to a news release.

A 15-year-old passenger was charged with Interfering with police after fleeing from the vehicle after it crashed, according to a news release.

Tyron Barnes, 19, of 449 Main St. Manchester, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with Interfering with Police and held on a $15,000 surety bond while awaiting a court appearance, according to a news release.
