New Version Of Historic Sign Put Up In Manchester

A new version of a traditional historic sign celebrates Manchester's contributions and has a slight touch of irony.

MANCHESTER, CT — A new version of the blue historic signs displayed in many Connecticut cities and towns is featured in Downtown Manchester, and it celebrates some significant contributions.

Local economic development officials were touting the new sign on Thursday.

  • Powder for the Revolutionary War

In a touch of irony, the sign mentions settlers purchasing land from the "Indians" in 1682, just weeks after the term "Indians" was officially dropped as the Manchester High School nickname.
