MANSFIELD, CT — A total of $300,000 in aid for a Mansfield affordable housing project is part of the latest federal spending package.

Last week, U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02) voted to pass the fiscal year 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act, a bipartisan spending package that includes the funding for the project. Now that the bill has been passed by the House, it will move on to the President’s desk for a signature.

Passage of the 2023 Omnibus package marks the second consecutive year that Congress has approved specific, targeted funding for local projects requested by members of Congress, known as "Community Project Funding." After working closely with second district towns, leaders, and non-profit organizations, Courtney requested and secured funding for fifteen local projects throughout eastern Connecticut in the full 2023 spending agreement.

Courtney said the Mansfield money will be earmarked for the Eagleville Green project, a 42-unit, mixed income development located on the south edge of the UConn campus.

According to officials of the Mansfield Nonprofit Housing Development Corporation, Eagleville Green is designed to be a "quiet, family friendly complex with close proximity to local amenities and employment opportunities that will allow residents to live and work in the Mansfield community." Zoning and Wetlands approvals for the project have been granted by the town of Mansfield and funding is being secured, officials said. Owned by the Mansfield Nonprofit Housing Development Corporation, the Eagleville Green property is a 5.2 acre parcel at 113-121 South Eagleville Road.

The $300,000 will go toward converting the two-story yellow house at No. 113, officials from the housing authority said. That is the closest structure to the wetlands on the property.

"The Mansfield Nonprofit Development Corporation has been working on bringing additional affordable housing to the Mansfield community for years. Funding for this renovation is one piece of a larger affordable housing project that has yet to be funded. This will help complete the funding for the entire 42-unit project," said Kathy Ward, the president of the Mansfield Nonprofit Housing Development Corporation.
