About Ahmadiyya Muslim Community CT and its Youth Association:
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans more than 200 nations with membership exceeding tens of millions. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is among the first American-Muslim organizations and the largest united under one spiritual leader, the Khalifa of Islam.
The Connecticut Chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA was established in the late 1980's. Its Mosque in Meriden was purchased in 2007 and named Baitul Aman "House of Peace" Mosque by The Khalifa of Islam. In June 2016, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Connecticut Chapter was awarded the United States Attorney's Office National Security and Major Crimes Unit Award by the United States Attorney Deirdre M. Daly and Department of Justice for the "courage, leadership, and tremendous generosity of spirit" in response to the shootings its Mosque sustained in November 2015.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long- awaited Messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice, and peace. Ahmad's advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam's true and essential teachings. The Community is lead today by the peace-loving Khalifa of Islam, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the fifth Successor of the Messiah.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) is a nationwide youth group that works with young Muslim men and boys around the country. The association serves as the young men and boys auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Officially established in the United States in 1939, AMYA is one of the earliest Muslim Youth organizations in the United States.
AMYA is a dynamic and vibrant association serving not only the needs of its members but of its local communities and nation. The association is comprised of more than 3,000 men and boys aged 7 to 40, spread across 70 local chapters. Previous members of AMYA include Grammy Award winning artists and Pulitzer Prize winning journalists. AMYA is headquartered in Silver Springs, MD.
