Author Injured in Hamden Crash Planned to Meet with Actress Betty White: Report
Meriden's Laura Van Wormer was traveling to La Guardia Airport when she was struck by a vehicle driving in the wrong direction.

The best-selling author critically injured in a head-on collision with a vehicle driving in the wrong direction early Sunday morning in Hamden was on her way to La Guardia Airport to fly out for a meeting with actress Betty White, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reports that Laura Van Wormer, 59, is the literary agent for White and was going to meet with the actress about a book.

Van Wormer was listed in critical but stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Monday night and is facing multiple surgeries, according to the Record-Journal.
Van Wormer’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle that was driving in the wrong direction on the Wilbur Cross Parkway.

State police are investigating the crash, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Route 15between the Heroes’ Tunnel and Exit 60.
The driver of the other vehicle, Wilian Chavez-Sanchez, was also taken to Yale after the accident.
Van Wormer is the author of “The Alexandra Chronicles” series and has written TV tie-in books for Dallas and Knots Landing.
