Best Bets for the Weekend

Where/When: Linear Trail Hike Starts at the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association Building at 540 Oregon Rd., in Meriden at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 4. The Hike to Mt. Lamentation begins at the parking lot for Giuffrida Park, 800 Westfield Rd., Meriden, at 9 a.m., Saturday. 

Why Go:  What a great way to work out and see some of the hidden treasures of Meriden. Also, the Linear Trail Hike is led by wildlife biologist Peter Picone, so you can  find out more about the town's natural habitat. If you miss these, other nearby towns are offering hikes of their own on Wednesday. You can see them .

Why Go:  Find a bargain or just have fun perusing some of the things donated to the Kiwanis club this year for its tag sale to benefit youth programs in Meriden.

3. DON CAMPBELL TRIO

Where/When: Augusta Curtis Cultural Center, 175 East Main St., Meriden, Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 8 p.m.

Why Go:  This soft rock/country trio, hailing from both Portland, Maine and Nashville Tenn., is part of the Augusta Curtis Center's "Nites Out" series. 

Pricing: $10 in advance, $15 at the door

Why Go:  There's dinner, a raffle, a showcase by the Meriden Youth Theatre, a performance by the Maloney Allegrettos, a DJ, dancing – and all to benefit the theater.

Where/When: Center Congregational Church, 474 Broad Street, Meriden, Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m..

Why Go:  The young performers (grades 6-12) of the CCYO take on Green Day, orchestra-style. They'll also play the classics, like The Sleeping Beauty Waltz, and Wagner's Entrance of the Meistersingers.
