NEW Meriden Pops Orchestra and Guild

Dust off the instrument cases, blow the dust through the
brass, get those woodwinds re-padded and restring those strings because Meriden is forming a new musical group! The Meriden Pops Orchestra (MPO) musicians will start with three Music Reading Sessions on Thursday eveninings 7 - 9 p.m. at the Center Congregational Church.

We are seeking at least 20 violins, 5 to 8 violas, 4 to 6 cellos, 2 or 3 basses, 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 4 horns and percussion. Among the pieces to be read at these sessions are:

October 13: Reading Session Number 1
Anderson – The Waltzing Cat
Mascagni – Cavelleria Rusticana, “Intermezzo”
Handel – Music for the Royal Fireworks
Faure – Pavane

October 20: Reading Session Number 2
Brahms – Variations on a Theme by Haydn
Brahms – Academic Festival Overture

October 27: Reading Session Number 3
Rodgers – Victory at Sea

The MPO is considering having three concerts a year. That will be decided once the make-up of the group has been established.

An MPO Guild will soon be forming to help run the group. The first meeting is scheduled for October 27 at 7 p.m. at Center Congregational Church.
