Plus Russian folk music, girls' basketball, a new dinosaur

State to approve $2 million for Meriden -

The State Bond Commission is slated to vote this morning at 10:30 a.m. to approve $2 million for "flood control improvements and reuse of the Meriden Hub." Placement on the agenda almost ensures approval. The money is set to go to uncovering Harbor Brook which runs under downtown Meriden, and to creating more flood detention areas.

Tonight both Platt and Maloney Girls' Basketball teams have games. Platt will battle Plainville at 7 p.m. at the school, and Maloney heads to Bristol to play Bristol Eastern at 7 p.m.

Russian concert -

The St. Petersburg Men's Ensemble will sing Russian sacred and folk music tonight at Center Congregational Church at the intersection of Broad and Main streets. The concert is from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., and entrance is by freewill donation at the door.

Nobel Prizes - 

The 2010 Nobel Prizes are being awarded today. You can watch the ceremonies online at nobelprize.org, though sadly Chinese Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo was prohibited from attending by the Chinese government, which has also blocked viewing of the event in the nation.

A new horned dinosaur! -

An international team of scientists has discovered remains of a new, dog-sized horned dinosaur in South Korea. Called, aptly, "Koreaceratops hwaseongensis," the Asian thunder lizard is thought to have lived approximately 103 million years ago. See an artist's rendering here. He's cute for a dinosaur.
