With Lease Expiring, Meriden Humane Society Must Find New Homes for Animals

Currently, the society has more than 100 cats and dogs under its care, all of which will need new homes.

MERIDEN, CT — The Meriden Humane Society is losing its lease at the City of Meriden-owned facility on Murdock Avenue, and now the rescue group must find new homes for the animals in its care, according to officials.

The city and the society have been in lease negotiations for several months, but were unable to come to an agreement, so the group now has 120 days to vacate, reports NBC Connecticut News. Society officials are not happy about the outcome of the failed negotiations, but city officials say there were issues with safety and cleanliness at the facility.

Additionally, though separate, the society's director, Marlena DiBianco, was arrested in September on alleged forgery charges relating to an animal in group's care. The current status of her case was not immediately known.
